Wish Kid Ambassador Jessie Woodford

Just three days after originally posting the article below, donations have poured in, almost doubling Jessie’s original goal of $500. This has energized her to strive even higher. Jessie has raised her personal goal to $2500.

Jessie Woodford, the daughter of AWR Racing’s owner, Tony Woodford, is asking for your help.

Jessie is the Wish Kid Ambassador for the Make-A-Wish foundation.

During her bout of a rare cancer-like disease, called Langerhan’s Cell Histiocytosis, Jessie was granted a Wish by the Make- A -Wish Foundation. Make- A -Wish has been such a positive experience for her and her family. Now that Jessie is well again, she is giving back. Read Jessie’s personal story here.

Through Rancho Buena Vista High School’s Internship program, Jessie has started a Kids for Wish Kids Club at her school. She is committed to raising money for the Make- A -Wish Foundation and sharing the Power of a Wish.

Jessie will be participating with others from her school in the Walk For Wishes, benefiting the Make- A -Wish Foundation of San Diego.

Jessie is asking for donations to help her with her personal goal of raising $2500 and her team goal of $5000. Any amount is appreciated!

All-New Mazda5 to Premiere at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show

January 20th, 2010

The all-new Mazda5 with 2.0L direct injection gasoline engine and i-stop (European specifications)

HIROSHIMA, Japan—Mazda Motor Corporation will hold the global premiere of the all-new Mazda5 (known as the Mazda Premacy in Japan) during the press days of the 2010 Geneva Motor Show on March 2 and 3, 2010. Embracing dynamic and elegant Nagare design, the new Mazda5 emits approximately 15 percent less CO2 than the current model thanks to Mazda’s “i-stop” idling stop system, a direct injection gasoline engine and other technologies. European sales of the all-new Mazda5 will commence during fall 2010.

The new Mazda5 features an emotional design that blends elegance with a dynamic spirit. It will be the first Mazda production model to fully adopt Mazda’s Nagare (meaning “flow” in Japanese) design language, which finds inspiration in the beauty of flows found in nature. Nagare design has appeared in certain elements of recent production models and was previously showcased through a series of concept cars. The new Mazda5’s design achieves excellent aerodynamic characteristics with an outstanding drag coefficient and lift balance. In order to meet wide-ranging customer requirements, it also offers a high level of functionality, with dual sliding rear doors and multiple seat arrangements. This includes akarakuri second-row center seat that can be converted to a versatile storage space. With a sportier and smoother ride, the new Mazda5 responds precisely to the driver’s commands, enabling the whole family to travel in comfort and security. Read more…

Racing couple weds on the racetrack

What a way to start the New Year! A Colorado Springs couple combined their love of racing with their love of each other for a very unique wedding. They got married at the Pikes Peak International Raceway.

Karen Tracey and Ryan Oerter stood at the start/finish line with the pastor, while guests surrounded them on the track. The idea to have a wedding here, was Karen’s idea. “It was like a start for us, you know, a new beginning,” she says. When you have a race, you have a start and a finish line so it symbolizes a race for us.”

They’ve been a racing pair for 8 years. They’ve done the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. They also do rally road racing. He drives, she’s the co-pilot. In their years of racing, they’ve had several close calls. They say they’ve slammed into a pole, rolled in one of their cars, went off the backside of a mountain while racing, and caught on fire once.

That history gave their unique vows special meaning. Karen asked the pastor to slip in the lines. While repeating their vows the couple said, “through crashes and burns, through wins or losses, through turbo or not.”

The wedding went off without a hitch, except for one little snafu. About 15 minutes before the ceremony, the groom disappeared. Ryan is a racecar driver, so he just wanted to take a couple more laps.

While guests waited, Ryan peeled around the track. Don’t worry, he made it to the alter in one piece.

After being pronounced man and wife, the couple took a victory lap around the track.

MAZDASPEED GOES BIG FOR THUNDERHILL

December 2nd, 2009

One Car, 25 Drivers, One Hour Each

November 30, 2009 (Irvine, Calif.). Rick Weldon has options for the longest endurance race in America. More than he wants to count. Actually, Rick crunched the numbers to realize that he has over a trillion driver combinations… in just the first nine hours!

Rick Weldon will be managing the driver rotation for the Mazda “25 in 25” team. Mazda, which has the largest pool of road racers in the country, and quite likely the largest percentage of OEM employees with competition licenses, has assembled a very special team to cap off the 2009 season. 25 drivers will take a turn at the wheel of the same car, the largest driving team ever assembled for the annual NASA season ender.

25 in 25

The “25 in 25” team will be racing a Mazda MX-5 Miata that has competed in the SCCA Pro Racing Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup series with a few modifications for the endurance race. The car and team was assembled with help from Mazda partners at BP, BFGoodrich Tires, and Mothers. This was an “after-hours” project where many of the employee drivers also contributed elbow grease to the car preparation. Read more…
