ROBERT DAVIS RACING SCORES TWO NASA CLASS CHAMPIONSHIPS

rdrracingSAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif., September 14, 2009 –Robert Davis Racing (RDR) scored two championship wins at the 2009 NASA National Championships at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT.  If not for a mechanical failure the team would have scored a 1-2 in the PTD class.

Jim Holloway scored a championship win in the Performance Touring B (PTB) class, the fastest class where RDR competes.  Jim won the pole and set the fastest race lap as well.

Dennis Holloway finished as runner-up in the Performance Touring C (PTC) class.  His fastest race lap was just .049 seconds slower than the winner in spite of a horsepower deficit, his RX-8 focusing on balance over power.

Scott Shelton led the first 13 laps of the Performance Touring D (PTD) race in his RX-8 before a broken suspension link caused a DNF.

Robert Davis chased Scott Shelton for 13 laps of that same Performance Touring D (PTD) race and took over the lead to score his first national championship.

Jeremy Barnes started tenth in the 40-car Spec Miata race and was challenging for eighth before car to car contacted resulted in a wild ride in the dirt and the right front fender in the guardrail.  Luckily the only injuries were to Jeremy’s wallet.

Ken Saward, competing in his first National Championship race, may have passed more cars than anyone else.  Ken started 26th and finished a strong 14th.

Next Up:  November 7-8, SoCal NASA Season Finale @ Buttonwillow

About RDR: RDR has been a dominant force on the west coast in SCCA Club Racing, winning regional, divisional and national titles for the last six years.  While the team still supports the SCCA, NASA has given it the opportunity to race in different classes, eliminating much of the inter- team competition.  MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development’s new support of NASA also aided the transition, as the team’s goal is to capture three NASA National titles at Miller Motorsports Park in September.
